When we look at the changing worldviews around us there’s nothing like direct quotes to bring out the reality of the mentalities that exist around an issue to validate things as they really are or were. As America is being forced to address the legality of gay marriage, the two core issues surrounding this lifestyle - the causes and morality of homosexuality, are also being discussed once again. What should the attitude of law and public policy be toward homosexuality is being debated in academia, legislatures, on news programs and at dinner tables across America.
In today's postmodern society, which has let go of it's moral compass and is leaning more and more towards making decisions based on feelings and a "let live" attitude, it is especially important to know and communicate the facts effectively. As in all issues of great importance, this issue requires a knowledge of history, stated motivations and agenda of its advocates, the existing law and its basis, and the voice of wisdom based on time-tested (and dare I say, biblical) truth. To make a decision based on emotion or what we think apart from the facts is, to say the least, faulty.
While it is not the intention of this article to provide each of the elements I've just mentioned, I have listed a few websites you can use in your own research to help insure your worldview on this issue is based on facts and not feelings.
The Advocate http://www.advocate.com/ is the national magazine for the gay rights movement, and it's online version is probably their main news source. For instance, today's issue has several articles about President Bush's calling for a constitutional amendment to defend traditional marriage. They say "children will listen and hear that gay people are not part of the American family," that "the America created by our Constitution is not the country George W. Bush wants to preserve and protect. He just wants to be President of the United States of Americans He Likes." It also has several articles by Republicans, such as Patrick Guerriero, the leader of the nation’s largest gay Republican group, the Log Cabin, who is "furious over President Bush’s endorsement of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage."
Then there is the ACLU's site http://www.aclu.org/LesbianGayRights/LesbianGayRightsMain.cfm which advocates "Get Busy, Get Equal." The Lambda Legal site http://www.lambdalegal.org/cgi-bin/iowa/index.html which is the "national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, the transgendered, and people with HIV or AIDS through impact litigation, education, and public policy work."
You can see Glaad's media awards http://www.glaad.org/ and go here http://www.ngltf.org/ for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force's Policy Institute, the movement's think tank. Or to http://www.glsen.org/cgi-bin/iowa/home.html for Glsen's site which "envisions a future in which every child learns to respect and accept all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression." Youth.org www.youth.org is an online source of youth gay sites.
This site http://www.true-spirit.org/programming/03workshoplist.htm lists the workshops available at a True Spirit conference on such subjects such as the risk of breast cancer even after "...FTMs, transmen, or anyone born female-bodied who uses testosterone," and intersex activism ideas for "changing our world." WorldNetDaily wrote an article post last year's conference which had workshops on "How to Do SM [Sadomasochism]" and one devoted to "polyamory," an activist term for multiple-partner sexual unions, entitled "Turning girls into boys" at http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=26569 . Also, an article on the ethics of doctors surgically changing young women's bodies can be read at http://www.americansfortruth.com/HRCTrueSpirit2002.html.
I would recommend reading "The Overhauling of Straight America: Waging Peace Part Two" written in 1987 which outlines the agenda and recommended steps to be taken in order for America to accept homosexuality as normal... " To desensitize the public is to help it view homosexuality with indifference instead of with keen emotion...if you can only get them to think that it is just another thing, with a shrug of their sholders then your battle for legal and social rights is virtually won. http://www.defendthefamily.com/_docs/resources/8142838.pdf
I highly recommend the Pro-Family Law Center's website http://www.abidingtruth.com which has a tremendous amount of research on the issue, as well as Changing Worldviews' Follow the Facts page under Dr. Christopher Wolfe's interview with us at http://www.changingworldviews.com/FollowTheFacts.htm#82 for additional resources such as People Can Change http://www.peoplecanchange.com/ and Is Homosexuality Genetic? http://www.narth.com/menus/born.html.
And, as suggested in my opening sentence, let me close with just few random quotes of gay rights advocates which express the Gay culture... in their own words:
"There is nothing wrong with going to bed with someone of your own sex. People should be very free with sex…(but) they should draw the line at goats." -Elton John
"Just simply to say that it goes against tradition and the teaching of the church and Scripture does not necessarily make it wrong." -Bishop V. Gene Robinson of the Episcopal Church (newly ordained openly gay bishop)
I'm a transgender activist. Not only that, I'm part woman, part man. Something out of science fiction. I'm a little bit of both, and I like it that way. I identify with a lot of you lesbians out there, since I live as a woman and love women. But I love both men and women, so I guess I really identify with you bisexuals. I think I could pass as just about anything, but who...cares, anyway?
-Nancy Nangeroni, Boston's Pride event
"Wouldn't it be great if you could only get AIDS from giving money to television preachers?" -Elayne Boosler
Just for the record, former Vice President Al Gore was the first vice president to speak at a gay rights event, where he said, "It is time for all Americans to recognize that the issues that face gays and lesbians in this country are not narrow, special interests, they are matters of basic human and civil rights."
Ad on a sign at a recent gay pride parade…”We are teachers…we are gay…and we teach your children.”

Remember Month
at Changing Worldviews
Whether it's Mothers or Veterans who have given their lives in the cause of freedom, it's the month to remember the heroes and heroines in our lives, and in the life of our nation. Remembering is to give honor, and to give honor is to remember the sacrifices of those who have invested their lives in our well-being. So we encourage everyone to make a special effort this month to do more than just think about, but do something that gives honor to those who deserve it. It's also a month to remember history, for it is absolutely true, that "those who forget history are doomed to repeat it." History is more than just some record of the past, it has great value for contemporary living. So we also encourange everyone to read some history this month (and listen to our shows that connect the dots between history and current events), and begin making a list of those important parts of history you want to grow in your knowledge of, and then make a concerted effort to (re)educate yourself on them and mark them off your list. It's also a good month to begin to write down the significant parts of your history for your posterity to read some day. Don't forget, remember!
