I Was Sad Until I Met a Man with Joy

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity, an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” – Winston Churchill

I know you’ve heard the old saying, “I had no shoes and complained, until I met a man who had no feet.” The power of these words to shift us out of discouragement, self-pity or just plain self-centeredness is significant.

When bad, even devastating, times hit; when someone rejects us; when health issues arise, it is easy to get down. But one very effective way to overcome those feelings is to see our situation in relation to that of others who have it much worse.

People who have this in place as their ‘automatic default’ usually experience depression much less than those who don’t put their situation into perspective. While it is not good to compare outselves with others, this would be one time whent comparing ourselves to others is a good thing.

The following video of a young man born without arms or legs, who is healthier in his soul than many who are with 100% of their body, is a powerful statement. You will be amazed as you watch Nick Vujicic, not only at his ability to care for himself, but his obvious positive attitude toward life, despite his condition.
